Job Description - Registered Migration Australia


The job of a civil engineering draftsperson in Australia is to assist in civil engineering research, design, construction, operations and maintenance.

 

Tasks

  • preparing sketches, charts, tabulations, plans and designs for civil engineering works such as drainage, water supply, sewerage reticulation systems, roads, airports, dams, bridges and other structures
  • performing and directing fieldwork and laboratory testing
  • interpreting work assignment instructions, applying appropriate procedures and selecting equipment
  • collecting and analysing data, and carrying out computations
  • estimating material costs and ensuring finished works are within specifications, regulations and contract provisions
  • inspecting civil engineering works, and organising and supervising maintenance and repair work
  • conducting field and laboratory tests of construction materials and soils, and collecting data for traffic surveys

 

Skill Level
Most occupations in the civil engineering draftsperson unit group (Group 3122) have a level of skill commensurate with the qualifications and experience outlined below.


In Australia:
AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2)

 

In New Zealand:
NZ Register Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2)

 

At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification. The number of job openings for Civil Engineering Draftspersons going forward is expected to be below average.

  • OET result with a minimum grade B in all sections;
  • TOEFL iBT with a minimum score (L:12 R:13 W:21 S:23 overall L93);
  • PTE Academic with a minimum score of 50 (L, R, W), 65 in speaking and 65 overall

  • Priority Skilled Lists may apply a specific requirement in some states/territories
  • Countries exempt from submitting IELTS or OET include the UK; Canada; New Zealand; US; and Ireland

 

Where mandatory licensing or registration is required you must demonstrate a level of English either sufficient to meet licensing / registration or a minimum IELTS, or equivalent, whichever is higher.
