The Skilled Regional Subclass 887 visa is a second stage permanent visa with no points based requirements. It does not require sponsorship by an Australian relative or nomination by a state or territory and you must be in Australia when you apply for this visa and when the visa is granted.

 

 

Skilled Regional Visa Subclass 887 Visa entitlements

 

The Skilled Regional Visa (subclass 887) is a permanent visa. It is for people who have a current eligible visa and have lived for at least two years and worked for at least one year in a specified regional area.

This visa allows you to:

  • live, work and study in Australia permanently
  • enrol in the Medicare scheme
  • apply for Australian Citizenship (if you are eligible)
  • sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence
  • travel to and from Australia for five years from the date the visa is granted. After that time, you will require a resident return visa or another visa to return to Australia.

You must be in Australia when you apply for this visa and when the visa is granted.

 

 

Skilled Regional Visa Subclass 887 Visa requirements

 

You are eligible to apply for this visa if you:

  • you are in Australia
  • you hold a valid passport
  • you must hold a current Subclass 489, 495, 496, 475 or 487 Visa, or Bridging Visa A or Bridging Visa B after applying for a Subclass 495, 487 or 489 Visa
  • you have lived in a specified regional area of Australia for at least two years
  • you have worked full time in a specified regional area for at least one year
  • you meet health and character requirements of the Australian Government

 

 

Including a Family Member to your Skilled Regional Subclass 887 Visa

 

You can include the following people in your visa application at the time of lodgement:

  • your partner
  • your child/step-child or your partner’s child/step-child.

 

The application must include documentary evidence of their relationship to you.

 

Members of your family unit must be able to show that they meet health and character requirements.

 

They must hold one of the following visas:

  • Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489)
  • Skilled Independent Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 495)
  • Skilled Designated Area Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 496)
  • Skilled Regional Sponsored visa (subclass 475 or 487) or
  • Bridging visa A or Bridging visa B after applying for a subclass 495, 487 or 489 visa.

 

Members of your family unit cannot be added to your application after it has been lodged.

  • 75 per cent of applications are processed in 7 months
  • 90 per cent of applications are processed in 10 months
